PALMA
THE 86-year-old former translator for the United Nations who apparently ran over and killed his wife outside their Pollensa home on November 9, has been provisionally released from jail on health grounds.

The incident occurred at 8.30am on the morning of November 9 during an argument between the suspect and his wife, from whom he was separating.
The elderly man had apparently driven round to the family house to collect some of his belongings and an argument broke out and spilled out into the driveway to the rural property.

It was then as his wife apparently tried to stop him from leaving, that he ran her down. She later died in hospital.
The whole incident was caught on the property's CCTV circuit and the suspect was initially ordered to be held on remand in Palma prison and denied bail. However, yesterday, an Inca judge ruled that he be provisionally released for medical reasons.
