THE General Workers' Union said yesterday that some key sorting offices remain almost inoperative on the second day of the national postal workers' strike.

The industrial action claims to have the support of 75 percent of Union members whilst some post offices closed yesterday in the Balearic Islands. A spokesman said that some automated sorting offices such as the one in Seville in Andalucia have been closed since 8pm on Tuesday last. Madrid meanwhile struggled on with a skeleton staff but had difficulty in getting post out to the whole district with its “urgent delivery” section inoperative. The spokesman added that offices which remained closed yesterday included distribution units in Melilla, the Balearics, Andalucia, Valencia, and Zaragoza.
