PALMA
THE Balearics is going to be playing a key role in Spain's Presidency of the European Union by hosting 13 major summits.
As the Bulletin has already reported, the most important is going to be the European Defense summit which is being held in Majorca on February 24 and 25 but yesterday, the Balearic President, Francesc Antich and the Presidential Minister, Albert Moragues, unveiled a programme of 13 conferences and conventions.

Antich said that he is extremely proud that the Balearics is going to playing such an active role.
Summits on key issues such as consumer affairs, social tourism and social responsibility are on the agenda.
Antich also said that he is expecting Spain's Presidency of the EU to prove fruitful for the Balearics because the recently signed Treaty of Lisbon includes greater recognition and aid for insular and island regions like the Balearics.
