Palma.—Child adoption numbers in the Balearics have  fallen by half when it comes to Spanish nationals over the last decade. When it comes to adopting children from other countries the decline is  even sharper with around 72 percent less successful processes compared to 2003.
According to figures revealed yesterday by Majorca’s Social Affairs Institute, the  recession and the fact many of the countries where children are originally from are making the adoption process extremely complex, is driving Balearic families to look for other alternatives.
