Palma.—On the day the WHO announced that cancer cases are on the rise although there are fewer deaths, it was announced that in the Balearics, an average of 9,000 people die from the disease every year.
The President of the Balearic Association Against Cancer, Teresa Martorell also said that 40 percent of the cases are avoidable by leading a healthy life and following the numerous preventative programmes the association runs.
The World Health Organization said that  the globe is facing a “tidal wave” of cancer, a trend which seems to apply to Spain as cancer rates have grown by nearly 10 percent in five years.
