Andraitx.—At least one hundred Balearic residents gathered over the weekend in Camp de Mar to protest against government plans to build 60 apartments on Camp de Mar’s sand dunes.

The idea came from opposition party officials (Socialist Party), who after presenting the local council with a document asking the Council of Majorca and the government to stop the project, decided to rally the locals.

Despite the poor weather in the area, many responded to the call and some even signed a petition to stop the construction of the apartment blocks and declare the area a "free public space".

The initiative is expected to continue throughout this week.

Government action
The opposition party claims that the project is still following a construction model dating back to the 70’s and that is now obsolete.

The party is now asking for the Council of Majorca and the government to take action since they believe it is no longer a simple municipal issue.
