The first reactions to the new civic laws approved by Palma council to regulate when and where  street artists can perform in the main tourist areas of the region’s capital have been far from positive from the artist’s point of view.

Palma.— Some claim they will struggle to make a living if they are forced to move to areas of the city in which they are less likely to find an audience, whilst others claim the council’s efforts to “clean the image and protect the rights of small businesses and neighbours could back fire”.
A local street musician said yesterday he fails to understand how “the council can include everyone in the same category” saying they are confusing “those who are only searching for a quick way to cash in with others for whom music is their life and bring as much to local tourism as anyone”.
