Palma.—The Minister for Agriculture, Biel Company, yesterday issued a ban on fires being lit in rural areas of woodland with immediate effect.
The Minister made the move after the weekend’s forest fire in Ibiza and a recent spate of minor blazes in Majorca.
Yesterday, a small forest fire was quickly extinguished in Selva and the IBANAT forestry commission reported that it has dealt with 31 forest fires already this year, nearly double the number during the same period last year.
