Palma.—The second vehicle in under three weeks ended up on the sea bed in Puerto Portals yesterday prompting calls for extra safety barriers.
The first van, which slid over the edge in front of Diablito restaurant, belonged to Paul Mason, the owner of Key West and Secure Services.
Yesterday he said that perhaps now it is time for the port to link up the columns along the edge of the quay with a chain.
“We are still trying to work out what happened when our van went over the edge, but to be honest the van wasn’t my main concern. It was had the van hit anyone?
“What I am worried about now is that a passer by or, in particular, a young child feeding the fish could easily fall over the edge and then we have a serious problem,” he said yesterday.
There is not a lot of space between the parked vehicles and the water’s edge along the second row in the port but it is very popular with visitors. “
