Balearic Government denies it has done a deal over oil prospecting

Balearic Government spokesperson, Nuria Riera, yesterday categorically denied that the President of the Balearics, Jose Ramon Bauza, has done a deal with his party superiors in the Balearic Government over oil and gas prospecting in Balearic waters.
She repeated the government’s commitment to use all available avenues to fight Madrid over the permits which were issued to Scottish energy company Cairn Energy by the previous Socialist government to prospect for gas and oil in waters between Valencia and the Balearics. Central government backs prospecting because of the revenue it will bring in toSpain and the jobs it will create.
