I think we can say that those who have been involved in the social media and print media campaign to clean up Magalluf and have security tightened have won a small victory of late with the Mayor of Calvia having pledged to take action and increase the number of police on the beat and round the clock.
On Sunday, at 4.30pm, a protest march calling for further action is going to set off from the Hotel Martinique and I just hope it passes off peacefully and we don’t let ourselves down.
Over the past 48  hours on Facebook there had been some tense exchanges between residents, holiday makers and business owners about the situation in the resort.
We need to put our differences behind us on Sunday and put on a united front so that the Mayor and the Council, some members of which Iknow will be monitoring events from a safe distance, can clearly see that we are deadly serious and that there are no chinks in our armour which could be exploited against us.
At the end of the day we all want one thing, a clean and safe resort where millions of people of all ages can come and have fun, after all, they are on holiday and are paying for the privilege of coming to this wonderful island.
What we don’t want is them going home  dead, injured or robbed, not any more because many people, even those who love the island, have said that standards are slipping and competition from other destinations is rising.
