The number of Spaniards opting to stay at home and rent a property for their summer holidays has risen by 10.1 percent this year.

Palma.—According to a market survey carried out by HomeAway, domestic and overseas  bookings for holiday property rentals between 23 June and 8 September is over ten percent higher than last year.
On the home front, the most popular rental destinations for the Spanish are the Costa de la Luz (Western  Andalusia), Majorca, the Costa del Sol, Castellon and Almeria and, on average, rentals are for ten days.
Looking overseas, the most popular destination with the Spanish market this summer is London followed by Paris and Lisbon. New York come in as fourth in the ranking.
On the flip side, Spain continues to be the most popular destination for the British, French, Italian and Portuguese.
This year, however, Italy is the preferred destination for the Germans, Spain is their second most popular option and that matches figures released this week that nationally show a slight decline in the number of Germans visiting Spain this year.
