The role of illegal taxi drivers operating at Palma’s Son Sant Joan airport is coming to an end after local authorities vowed to put an end to it.

Palma.—Both the Balearic Government and airport authority AENA agreed yesterday that  this kind of activity  is “unfair and disloyal” for professional and regulated taxi drivers, and as such much be eradicated.
From next summer there will be eight cameras specifically designed to capture number plates around the airport to keep a close eye on anyone offering this service without the proper documentation.
Biel Company from the Urban department and AENA’s commercial director Jose Manuel Fernanez, signed a deal yesterday in which the airport agrees to lease to the authorities a space by the airport’s public access road for free so the cameras can be installed.
The government will invest 150,000 euros in this operation, to come out of the transport department’s budget.
