Palma.—The Palma City Council said yesterday that their new “Good Citizen Plan” was proving a big success in the holiday resorts in the Playa de Palma of Arenal and Can Pastilla.
Tourists are banned from drinking alcohol in the streets. Also, for many years German tourists would drink lethal cocktails from buckets through straws. This practice has also been outlawed.
The police said yesterday that 2,000 buckets, cans and bottles of alcohol had been confiscated from tourists who were drinking in the street or on the beach in the space of a month. The council has also been cracking down on illegal street vendors. A city council spokesperson said yesterday:“we are pleased with the results of the campaign so far. We are trying to outlaw all those practices which give the resorts a bad name from street prostitutes to binge drinking.”
