The number of overnight stays in self catering apartments in the Balearics last month was only surpassed by the Canary Islands.

Palma.—In total 12.8 overnight stays were registered in all sorts of tourism accommodation facilities in the region last month according to a report published yesterday by the National Statistics Institute.
The figure represents a decline of 2.3 percent compared with the same period last year, but enough to keep the region as the second most popular self catering destination  in the country only behind Catalonia, which registered 15.4 million night stays and ahead of the Canary Islands with 9.5 million.
In terms of overnight stays in self catering apartments only, the Balearics came once again second, behind the Canary Islands, despite registering an occupation rate of 88.6 percent of all apartments available for rental.
Within the region, Majorca led the list with 1.2 million overnight stays.
The number represents an occupation rate of over 92 percent in terms of the number of apartments available for renting.
In terms of overnight stays in rural areas in Spain, the Balearics came top, with an occupation rate of over 74 percent.
