A 67-year-old man was injured and a kindergarten had to evacuated when a fire broke out in Palmanova yesterday.

Palma.—The fire broke out just after 2.30pm in a second floor apartment in a block of four flats in calle Roses Bermejo. The fire gutted the apartment and a kindergarten on the ground floor was immediately evacuated as nearly 30 fire fighters from brigades in Palma, Santa Ponsa and Soller were involved in fighting the flames.
None of the  children or teachers were injured but a 67-year-old resident had to be taken to Son Espases Hospital after having suffered first and second degree burns.
According to the fire services, the blaze spread through the apartment extremely quickly, primarily because it apparently was stocked with boxes and rubbish.
“We came across everything, it was full of rubbish,” one fire fighter said.
Fire chief Joan Cifuentes said  that the immediate priorities were the owner of the apartment, in which the  fire started, who was admitted to hospital, and the children in the kindergarten.
