Andratx’s environmental group “Plataforma Salvem Andratx” yesterday urged a government delegation and the local council, to take action to prevent the “uncontrollable burning of scrubland” in the area.
The group is asking the authorities to draft a policy to control the amount of  branches, buds, or roots being burned, which is endangering the local flora and fauna, and could cause respiratory problems to the locals in the future.
Local apiarists have supported the decision, saying that the smoke and air pollution worldwide is driving the bees away, pointing out they are “essential to the pollination process”.
