Jose Manuel Ruiz will be presented as the Partido Popular’s  candidate for mayor of Calvia on Monday at 7pm after Idoia Ribas threw in the towel.

Palma.—It was expected to be a two horse race with the decision going down to primaries with the local members of the PP in Calvia voting for their favourite candidate.
However, in the end, Ribas, withdrew her bid, leaving the road clear for sole candidate Ruiz to stand for mayor of Calvia at the local elections next May.
Nevertheless, Ribas, who is the current manager of Calvia’s retirement home, will form part of Ruiz’s team should the Partido Popular secure reelection.

Drawn out process
It is understood that the current mayor and president of the Partido Popular’s Calvia branch, Manuel Onieva, was personally involved in the discussions over who would be the next candidate to replace him. In the end, Onieva, Ribas and Ruiz were said to have been satisfied with the outcome and that the process will not have to be a drawn out one  with the candidacy going to a local party vote.
