The Balearics handled the second highest number of low cost airline passengers during the first nine months of this year and airport authority Aena has confirmed that there will be an increase in winter flight connections this year.

Palma.—Aena reported yesterday that between January and September of this year, the Balearics’ three airports handled a total of 4,242,633 low cost passengers, 8.7 percent more than during the same period last year - only Catalonia has handled more.
However, the, Balearics handled 6.1 million scheduled passengers, a drop of 1.6 percent in comparison to last year and the sharpest fall in Spain.
Low cost airlines now account for a 16.4 percent share of air traffic in the Balearics while scheduled airlines, mainly thanks to the domestic market, have hung on to a 21.8 percent share.
During that same period, Balearic airports handled a total of 10.3 million air passengers, 2.4 percent more than last year and in September alone, the number of low cost passengers rose by 7.8 percent - although that was three percent below the national average.
