Calvia Council is planning on reducing waste collection rates by between five and 20 percent, depending on the size of the property,  next year as part of  the council’s  fiscal shake up of its waste collection rates.
The Councillor for the Economy, explained that the reductions can be made “thanks to the hard work Mayor Manuel Onieva has carried out in improving the management of the council and reducing costs.”
The opposition Socialists are not convinced however.
Opposition leader, Alfonso Rodriquez Badal, said that despite the proposed reductions next year, most people will still be paying higher waste collection rates than they were back in 2011 “because of the disproportionate increases the Partido Popular  introduced in 2012.”
