Palma.—Just before 2pm yesterday afternoon, residents in Lluchmayor got the shock of their lives when the skies opened and torrential rain caused serious flooding to large parts of the town within a matter of minutes.
Worst hit was the Son Noguera industrial estate, but across the whole town, drivers were either forced to pull over or remain stuck in the flood waters while pedestrians dived for cover.
The intense rain continued for a solid hour and in some of the car parks, the flood waters reached half way up the side of the vehicles while a number of basements and underground car parks needed to be pumped dry by the fire brigade.
A wall collapsed under the weight of the rain and a number of trees also toppled over.
