Palma.—Nine North African immigrants caught trying to sneak ashore from a fishing vessel in Cala Figuera on Wednesday morning are expected to be deported within the next 48 hours.
The nine were spotted on board a six metre long boat, the second vessel carrying illegal immigrants to have been detected in the Balearics this year.
Guardia Civil sources said that two suspicious people were intercepted between Cala Figuera and Santanyi just after 9am, according to the security services “they looked like they had just disembarked from a vessel”.
Neither of the two men were carrying any identification but were clearly fromAlgeria.
The Guardia Civil began searching the area and by 10.15am, a further seven North Africans had been located and apprehended.
