Majorcan Hotel and Spa Ferrer Janeiro in Can Picafort, was yesterday declared the third best in Europe for triathlon athletes by a renowned German triathlon website.
Palma.—The jury panel, consisting of triathlon athletes, triathlon- specialised tourism operators and members of German website meintriathlonhotel.de elected Club La Santa in Lanzarote as the top hotel in Europe for the sport, followed by Playitas Resort in Fuerteventura and Hotel and Spa Ferrer Janeiro as the third best.
The hotel, one of three belonging to the Majorcan family owned hotel chain Ferrer Hotels, received the distinction following several years of refurbishment work in their Can Picafort venue, to ensure triathlon athletes had the best equipment at their disposal for their training.
The hotel also has a special garage just for the bicycles and an Olympic size swimming pool.
The award is also set to please Majorcan authorities, which have over the past year repeatedly channeled efforts to promote the region as a top sporting destination and offer alternatives to boost off season tourism.
