Palma.—Emergency services in Balearic public hospitals were yesterday morning still overwhelmed with patients, even though new beds and extra staff were made available this week to help resolve the problem.
Balearic Health service IB Salut announced on Thursday 47 new members of staff were going to be hired to help at Son Llatzer, Son Espases and Inca hospitals, after several complaints that patients were being made to wait to be seen by a doctor and often in the corridors when there were plenty of beds available.
But by yesterday morning the problem remained, with reports suggesting that by 8am, some 48 patients were still waiting for a bed at Son Espases, eight in Son Llatzer and another eight in Inca.
