The looming cold snap, the first of the winter, is causing a great deal of concern for Majorca’s potato farmers.
From Wednesday, over night temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing and in  sa Pobla, the heart of Majorca’s potato country, farmers are worried that the sudden drop in temperatures could seriously damage the export market.
Over the years, the United Kingdom has become Majorca’s largest export markets because of the early harvests, but, there are concerns that this week’s cold snap could seriously damage the crop and reduce export quantities.
Already, farmers are watering their crops during the night for over five hours to protect the plants from the cold.
