A bombshell has derailed Calvia Council’s bid to ban pub crawls this year in an attempt to clean up the image of resorts like Magalluf and Santa Ponsa. One of Calvia Council’s flagship municipal orders for this season was to ban pub crawls in Magalluf  as part of the local authority’s new crack down on anti social behaviour in the resort, and other conflictive parts of the municipality, after the resort hit the global headlines for all the wrong reasons last year.
However, the council has  been informed this week that it does not possess the necessary powers to out law pub crawls and that the decision has to made either by the Balearic government or central government in Madrid.
The cross party commission which has been set up in Calvia  to increase security and overall behaviour in the resort and  also includes local hoteliers and senior members of the business community, have decided to appeal again to the Balearic government that it bans pub crawls.
