Airlines and shipping companies will not be forced to reduce their prices even though petrol prices have slumped in the lastsix months. The confirmation was given by government representatives, who yesterday met with different representatives from both sectors to see what could be done now that crude prices have gone down.
Julio Gomez- Pomar, secretary of State for the  Transport department said after the meeting that it was the authorities’ intention to persuade airlines and shipping companies to reduce prices, but that a final decision is  their own to make.
“We told them that this was a unique opportunity to offer better prices to our citizens.
“Petrol prices are one of the costs that most influence the final financial results of a company so the slump in crude barrel prices could be good news for everyone. What we will not do is to get involve ion company policies neither their market strategies,” added Pomar.
