The annual FITUR Travel Trade Fair opened in Madrid yesterday with the Balearic delegation, led by President Jose Ramon Bauza, in an optimistic mood.Opening the Balearic stand, Jose Ramon Bauza confirmed that last year,  a total of 13,580,000 tourists came to the Balearics, 4.46 percent more than in 2013 when the number of visitors dropped by 580,000.
To mark the start of the three day trade fair in the Spanish capital, Bauza said that the Balearic industry and he as a whole, is very pleased with last year’s figures, although the  drop in spending has caused some concern.
Nevertheless, the President said that he  is convinced the market will grow further this year and, with the pound expected to remain strong against the euro, tourist spending should recover.
He also highlighted the significant amount of private investment which has been ploughed into hotel refurbishment etc., claiming that this will also help to give the tourist industry a further boost.
