New York overtook Paris as the top overseas destination for UK travellers in 2014, according to Hotels.com’s annual Hotel Price Index.
The French capital was pushed back into second place place for the first time in three years.
A reshuffle in the top five destinations in 2014 saw Amsterdam coming in third, closely followed by Dublin and Rome - pushing Las Vegas to sixth place and out of the top five altogether.  New to the top 20 overseas destinations are Majorca and Munich, featuring in 19th and 20th position respectively, knocking both Los Angeles and Singapore out of the list.
Orlando was the highest climber, up five places to 12th.
London was once again the most-visited city for inbound travellers, with Edinburgh a close second, followed by Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow.  The only new entry was Inverness, taking 19th place in the top 20 UK destinations for overseas visitors.
