Following last weekend’s Observer interview in which former drug smuggler and author, Howard Marks, revealed that he had inoperable cancer, many of his friends have agreed to come together to host a night to celebrate his life.
Marks lived and was arrested as part of a massive international drugs operation in Palma in 1988.
The special one-off event, titled Howard Marks & Friends, will be held at the Kentish Town Forum on 27 February. The event will see film star Rhys Ifans, who portrayed Marks in the film adaptation of Mr Nice, joined by members of the Super Furry Animals, including Daf’s latest project The Earth, Cian Ciaran and Bunf, who will all be performing throughout the evening.
There will also be DJ sets from Hacienda legend Greg Wilson and Good Times kingpin Norman Jay, with many more acts to be announced soon. The show will conclude with an appearance from Marks himself. The funds raised from the event will help set up The Mr Nice Foundation and complete the definitive documentary about Marks.
