4 percent increase in passengers

The number of passengers who used the Palma Metro in April was up by almost 4%, there having been a fall of 4% in March. The actual number was 104,000, and the four months of the year combined the level of use shows no trend either up or down.
Across the country, metro systems recorded increased passenger numbers with the exception of Valencia’s; here, there was a slight fall of 0.7%. The most notable increase was in Seville - up by almost 19%. As for a different form of public transport - buses - usage in Palma showed the third highest increase (4.1%) behind Bilbao and Seville, where it was up by 4.8% and 5% respectively.
Travel by plane within Spain also rose in April as did journeys using the high-speed AVE train service. There were 2.6 million air passengers and the same number for all long-distance rail travel (including AVE). Rail travel on local networks - commuting and middle distance - was, however, down to 48 million passengers. Bus transport was, in general, up by a fraction, while ferries registered a 2.2% increase in passenger volume.
