A 42-year-old man was killed this morning by a train on the Palma-Manacor route. The incident occurred around 6.45am near Petra, where the stretch of track is protected by fencing. Visibility was good but there was nothing the train driver could do to avoid the man on the track.

No injuries were suffered by the 60 or so passengers on board. Trains between Petra and Manacor are, for the time being, suspended, with a bus service ferrying passengers between the two stations.
