Cala Millor was celebrating World Tourism Day on Sunday and so the final day of its week-long tourist fiestas. It wouldn’t, however, have been expecting or wanting the visitors who invaded the beach at around one o’clock in the afternoon: a massive swarm of bees.

The lifeguard service contacted the local police and town hall officials when the bees landed and congregated around some particular beach parasols and loungers. The fire service was also contacted, as was a beekeeper. The police decided to close part of the beach and to cordon it off.

Though the bees naturally caused some alarm, there were beachgoers, once the situation was being controlled, who were only too happy to take selfies with the bees in the background. The lifeguard service monitored the situation, and the police removed the cordon late in the afternoon when the swarm moved off.
