Parents from the Norai primary school in Puerto Alcudia have met with President Armengol, Vice-President Barceló and the minister for land, energy and transport, Joan Boned, and heard the government reassure them that underground high-voltage cabling will not pass by the school.

Work that was initially suspended on the cabling in March because of fears of health risks remains suspended. Red Electrica (effectively the equivalent of the UK National Grid) has accepted further delay until agreement is reached on a new route for the cabling to link up with the substation by the commercial port.

The government has made three proposals for alternative routes to the company, and these are to be studied for their feasibility, not least their cost. A figure of 3.5 million euros has previously been placed on compensating Red Electrica for delays, work already done and revised work to be undertaken. The scheme for the project was approved in 2008.

There is to also be a committee comprising parents' representatives, the government, the Council of Majorca and Alcudia town hall which will ultimately decide which route should be adopted.
