Following a meeting at the arbitration tribunal, the planned stoppages announced by the works council at Palma’s EMT bus service have been called off. These were due to have started on Monday and were then due to have escalated into an indefinite strike from 4 January.

The motives for the industrial action were alleged “non-compliance” by the mayor, José Hila, and aspects of the collective bargaining agreement as well as demands for the rescheduling of routes in order to bring about improved service to the general public.

The first stoppages were to have been on Monday from 8am to 10am and from 7pm to 9pm. The same had been planned for Wednesday, 16 December and Friday, 18 December, but on the following Monday (21 December), the strike would have been for 24 hours, starting at 4am. A further 24-hour stoppage had also been scheduled for 23 December.
