Fallen leaves have been only one reason for the streets being unclean.

Numerous complaints that have been made about the lack of cleanliness of streets in Soller have led the town hall to introduce an emergency plan to deal with the situation.

One reason for the complaints is the natural problem of leaves, but others relate to paper, plastic containers, cans and various other items of rubbish accumulating in the immediate vicinity of waste-collection points.

Andreu Castanyer, councillor for town hall services, attributes the problem to the fact that workers with the municipal cleaning service agency, Soller 2010, have been having so many days off, these having been owed to them by the previous council administration. The immediate solution will be to extend a current contract with a local occupational workshop, with some members of that scheme being taken on to assist with street-cleaning.
