DGT, the Traffic directorate, has installed cameras on motorways (and possibly other roads), which record all number plates, regardless of whether any offence is being committed. Primarily, these cameras are checking for vehicles without insurance or a valid MOT (ITV, to give it the local acronym). The cameras, it is said, are producing a whole load of fines and just as many complaints from motorists.

Thanks for the info. Could we have a map of where the others are please.
What a great idea! I have always wondered why a system like this has never been used in UK, where there are so many driving around with no tax, insurance etc. I thought the reason was that the EU laws infringing human rights & civil liberties prevented this, or that they didn't have the technology. So here they have and it's ok. Why does Britain have to obey all the EU rules when other member states do whatever they like? Hopefully after the referendum and UK is out, they will be able to make their own laws. Brexit? Bring it on!!
Are complainers suggesting that people who drive without an ITV or insurance or tax should continue to do so at the expense of law-abiding motorists?
If you are insured, drive legally and considerately and have a valid ITV,then you have nothing to worry about and should welcome the fact that these cameras are helping to catch those that don't and make the roads a safer place for everyone.
Just like the w!!!!nkers in the uk treat the motorist as a cash cow
