A driver has been charged with reckless homicide following the death of a 17-year-old Swiss tourist in Arenal yesterday morning.

The incident occurred at just before five. The driver left an underground garage in the calle Maria Antònia Salvà, turned and ran over the youth, having failed to see him lying in the street.

The emergency services were quickly on the scene. Attempts at resuscitation were in vain, the tourist having suffered cardiac arrest.

The driver tested positive for alcohol. An autopsy will now try to determine why the 17-year-old had been lying in the street; either because of another incident or drink.
