The Guardia Civil have arrested seven people in an operation against drug dealing and prostitution in Alcudia.

The investigation started early in the summer. Officers at the Guardia Civil station in Puerto Pollensa had been alerted to the existence of a possible "alternative" establishment that was also being used as a sales point for drugs.

Five raids took place in Alcudia and Puerto Alcudia. In addition to the seven arrests - all people of differing foreign nationalities - the Guardia seized 500 grams of cocaine, 13 kilos of hashish, 3.3. kilos of cutting substance, 40,000 euros cash, four cars, one of them a high-end vehicle, and a motorcycle.

It was found that one of the properties was being used as a brothel and had been kitted out for that purpose. One of the people arrested was at this property, as were five female prostitutes, two of whom were also detained on suspicion of a crime against public health in making drugs available to clients.

Another of the properties was a "safe house" in a tourist residence complex, which was being used as a laboratory for the adulteration of drugs and the preparation of doses. Mostly all the drugs seized were at this property. Equipment was also taken away.

The gang is believed to have had a monopoly on drug distribution in the north of Majorca and had filled a gap left by arrests resulting from other Guardia Civil operations.

Various sales points in Alcudia have been deactivated. The operation remains open and further arrests are not being ruled out.
