A proposal is to be presented to next week's council meeting in Calvia to improve the "aesthetic quality" of various establishments. It is also aimed at stopping or at least minimising displays of alcoholic drinks in the main commercial and tourist areas of the municipality.

The town hall is therefore taking a further step in seeking to eradicate the "excesses of tourism" which have existed over so many years. The proposal will be an amendment to a bylaw of 2006 regarding the external aesthetics of establishments.

In addition to addressing displays of alcoholic drink, the amended bylaw will tackle noise pollution caused by recreational machines. This has in mind machines such as "kicker", "kickboxer" and "arm wrestler". The revised ordinance would ban them from terraces and from bars themselves.
