The Guardia Civil yesterday afternoon arrested the ex-boyfriend of the daughter of 57-year-old Juan Antonio Florit Cirer whose body was found bound, stabbed and battered in the kitchen of the family finca on the outskirts of Sencelles on Tuesday night. Antonio B.F., aged 40, was detained at his residence in Palma.

The body was found by the victim’s sister who went round to the house after he had failed to answer his phone all day. The autopsy has revealed that the victim died from a fatal stab wound near the heart.

The Guardia Civil began tapping the phones of close family members and friends as part of the murder investigation and it appears that evidence suggests that the alleged killer is the daughter’s ex-partner. According to sources close to the investigation, the 57-year-old had been dead for a while, quite possibly since the night before and that there were signs of "extreme violence" inside the kitchen. The Guardia Civil are still looking for the crime weapon, believed to be a large knife.

Yesterday, the Guardia Civil continued searching the crime scene for further evidence, but investigations were meanwhile revealing a picture of conflict between Juan Antonio and the suspect that had arisen over the relationship with his daughter. The couple split up around 18 months ago. They have a two-year-old daughter.

Robbery was ruled out as a motive, though it is now believed that the suspect had been looking to get money from Juan Antonio. Sources suggest that the arrested man is a drug addict.
