Seven people have died as a result of last night's terror attack in London. At around 10pm, several pedestrians on London Bridge were hit by a white van, which was reported as travelling at around 50 miles an hour before hitting a number of people.
Three men left the van and stabbed a number of people in Borough Market. The three were shot dead by armed police within eight minutes of the emergency call having been raised. They had been wearing hoax explosive vests. At present, 48 people are in hospital.
Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said that it was believed that there were only three attackers.
Theresa May has called a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee in light of what she called "dreadful events". The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said it was "a deliberate and cowardly attack on innocent Londoners". Jeremy Corbyn condemned the "brutal and heart-breaking" attack.
The general secretary of the British Council of Muslims, Harun Khan, expressed his "shock and indignation in the name of all Muslims".
National campaigning for the general election has been suspended.
The vehicle used in the attack was a Hertz van hired through B&Q on hourly rates.
Police have arrested twelve people in Barking, east London. This followed a raid at a flat belonging to one of the attackers.
The Met Police has set up a casualty bureau on 0800 096 1233 and 020 7158 0197 for people concerned about friends or relatives.

Being totally deaf as a result of being injured on active service,I don't have a T.V.set,radio or mobile phone so this was the first that I knew of this latest attack. First and foremost,I offer my deepest sympathies to those murdered and injured in this attack and secondly,I have never understood why just about everyone from 9 to 90 walks around with a back pack on these days. Yes ban back packs from any public place,venue or event and that will make it a little harder for the terrorists.
The Cobra meeting will no doubt raise the threat level back to Critical. With the Election due on Thursday, security will need to be at maximum. Tonight the Show in Manchester will be on maximum alert as well. I would like to see a complete ban on 'Back Packs ', at or near any main venue, where there will be hundreds of people. Terrorists are now attacking with knives. Their threats and attacks, are now taking on a more diverse method. Which requires a change of prevention to their attacks and M O .
