At the Pollensa council meeting on Friday, a motion for acquiring the "Hort del Camí del Puig" or "Hort de can Bach" was approved thanks to the support given to the ruling Junts and UMP by the Alternativa per Pollença. This land is commonly known by the fact that it is behind the Renault showroom and garage. It is therefore the "Renault car park".

It is not tarmacked but has been used as a car park for years. The town hall has been paying rent of 12,000 euros per annum and continues to. Now, however, the town hall intends paying 510,000 euros in acquiring the land. It is a reasonable size, some 7,872 square metres to be exact, and the idea is that it will still be a car park: there is space for around 700 vehicles.

Whether it will be tarmacked will probably be open to any possible reclassification. Most of it, according to the Pollensa urban plan, is at present "rustic". But whether tarmacked or not, the town hall believes that the Renault land will solve any parking problems caused by the loss of the Can Conill car park, which is nearby along the same road in Pollensa town, the calle Cecili Metel. At a recent council meeting, approval was given to ceding Can Conill to the Balearic health service so that a new health centre can be built.

The opposition Tots per Pollença and others voted against the motion, arguing that the Renault land won't provide a solution to parking problems. And the opposition may have a point. As it is, there are occasions when the Renault car park fills up.
