Car-hire firms in Calvia will be liable to fines of between 1,000 and 10,000 euros if vehicles are parked on streets for more than 24 hours without being rented out.

The town hall has received numerous complaints from residents about the parking of hire cars, and Calvia police have started a campaign to inform firms about parking on streets and in municipal car parks. This began in Paguera and will be followed up in the other main tourist resorts. Under local ordinance, hire cars must display a rental contract number and its duration as well as the registration number and the name, address and telephone number of the car-hire firm.

Magalluf is where the most complaints are generated because of parking on streets such as Notario Alemany. The fines that firms could be liable for will depend on the number of cars and if the firm is a repeat offender. Firms can also be fined for doing maintenance work on cars parked on public roads.
