A seventy-year-old Norwegian cyclist died on Thursday as the result of a collision with a dust cart.

The accident occurred on the Cami de Sa Torre in the vicinity of the Hilton Sa Torre Hotel in Llucmajor at around half two on Thursday afternoon. It would appear that the cyclist had been accelerating in order to rejoin the main group of riders he was with. In taking a sharp bend, the cyclist crossed into the other lane and into the oncoming dust cart. The impact with the truck was with his head.

Police officers first on the scene attempted to save his life, but they and paramedics were unable to.

The cyclist had been staying in Playa de Palma. The ride on Thursday was the last one before he and a group of friends were scheduled to return to Norway. They had come to Majorca in order to celebrate his seventieth birthday.
