MÉS per Mallorca has called on the Island's Municipalities to add more culture to summer festivals to keep the Sector afloat.

It's necessary to keep the music and performing arts Sector alive and dynamic with contracts containing decent conditions and the coronavirus crisis offers an opportunity to redirect the festivities and celebrations this summer to give them more cultural character which would also help the Sector," said Culture Minister, Antoni Noguera.

The Culture Councillor for Andratx, Ruth Mateu, claimed that the Sector is "one of the most affected" by structural weakness and because it's not considered a necessity, adding that "MÉS per Mallorca Culture Councillors will continue to work to bring productions to all corners of Majorca to show the high quality of the Balearic productions.”

Councillor Mateu said MÉS Councillors have undertaken various initiatives to support the Cultural Sector, including the 'Nits a la fresco de Andratx’, cultural activities staged by Mancor City Council and the 'Km 0' concert cycle which is scheduled to take place in sa Pobla and she urged all the Consistories and Institutions to "come together with the Sector".

The Culture, Heritage & Language Policy Councillor, Bel Busquets, explained that the Cultural Activities Catalogue has been modified and expanded to facilitate the reprogramming of activities planned during the State of Emergency and new contracts during the remainder of the year.

"There are more than 500 shows and quality activities by Majorcan companies,” said Councillor Busquets who reiterated his commitment to bring culture to every corner of the Island.

The 800,000 euro budget for the Municipalities for the programming of cultural activities is being maintained and the deadline for carrying out activities has been extended from June 30 until November.
