Eugènia Carandell, the Balearic government's coordinator of the Covid vaccination programme, said on Friday that the news coming from Europe with regard to increases in Covid incidence and infections "is not good". She expressed concern about what may happen in the coming weeks, specifically the early December holiday period and the Christmas holidays.

At a press conference to report on the combined flu and Covid vaccination campaign, Carandell stressed that social and family gatherings, only to be expected over the coming weeks, as well as mobility are "the main routes of transmission for the virus". She emphasised that masks, social distance and ventilation remain "the main weapons" against the virus, but recognised that at gatherings with family or friends, "it is difficult not to lower our guard".

On Thursday, President Armengol said that reactivation of restrictive measures could not be ruled out, if an increase in incidence were to "influence" healthcare and hospital activity.
