It's not new. During the pandemic, illegal parties were happening constantly. Not just at airbnb listings, but at villas listed on VRBO, booking.com and others. Worse, the perpetrators would often completely trash the houses, costing the hosts thousands. Airbnb has this illusionary "host guarantee" which is not a guarantee at all and they find any means to decline any claims (they've changed the name to "air cover" now because of lawsuits claiming that the name implies it's an insurance or guarantee, which by Airbnb's own definition, it isn't). So, rather than pay the legal fees for declining damages caused by parties, they've permanently banned parties. Although it's about as enforceable as banning sex. The fact remains that for hosts of STRs, you're on your own regardless of which platforms you list on. The host carries the burden of preventing bad guests and the costs of cleaning up after them. The platforms mainly cater to the guests. Statistically, the number of damaging guests far outnumber the bad or damaging hosts. It's a daily topic on the host forums. But it's the bad hosts that get all the press. Bad guests rarely get a mention.
