Over half of the migrants were caught in Ibiza and Formentera. In Mallorca there were 282. However, this figure was augmented by arrivals in Cabrera, where there was an increase of close to 700%.
By nationality, the overwhelming majority were Algerian (720), followed by sub-Saharan (269). There were also 34 Moroccans and 12 Asians. February has been the month so far this year with the most migrants - 259 on 16 boats.
Some of the migrants do get deported, but this isn't the case with Algerians. When they arrive, they are processed by the National Police - as with all illegal immigrants - and dealt with by a temporary attention centre.
The police, who are greatly concerned about the increased numbers, point out that it has become impossible to send Algerians back because of the breakdown in diplomatic relations between Spain and Algeria. Once the Algerians are identified, they are released.
A senior officer says: "This situation is generating very serious conflicts, such as those that have occurred in Son Gotleu and Arenal. Ten days ago in Formentera, the Guardia Civil arrested several Algerians for shoplifting just three hours after they had arrived on a small boat. In Mallorca we are experiencing many problems wherever they can get to by bus or train. Son Gotleu and Arenal are the tip of the iceberg."

tranq tranquerReform and Vox are both radical fringe parties shooting at nonexistent fish in an imaginary barrel. Remember what Nige did for the UK. But reality doesn't seem to matter, so it wouldn't surprise me if England votes for Christmas again. It really doesn't matter what England does anymore anyway.
This article is about illegal immigration though you would never know it reading the comments below. Back to the topic. If this was the UK, which thank god its not, the answer would be vote Reform which it appears people are going to do in droves. Here I suppose the closest is Vox but they don't seem to be able to get any momentum. Whatever, something has to be done . Its a long way to take them back by sea, which needs to be done in the channel. The problem of course is not stopping the boats, its stopping the urge to come . Since they now all have mobile phones and can compare life in their third world shitholes with a presumed life in europe stopping the urge is nigh on impossible unless we are all prepared to double our taxes to be sent to our brothers and sisters in the south. What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?
Morgan WilliamsThe British gutter press never let the facts get in the way of a good story. I'm told that the latest story is that 'Mallorca is begging for Brits to come' as a few restaurants are said to be struggling. Which is strange as all the restaurants where I live were packed last night, (on a Wednesday) and I struggled to get a table. Who to believe, the British gutter press or my own eyes?
Zoltan TeglasI have to suspect British tabloid media plays a big role in that. Tabloids, after all, are the most consumed media in Britain (well, England, anyway). Here's a few choice examples (note the inherent British centricity - as if that's all that counts): ***** Majorca left 'devoid' of UK tourists as Brits 'leave' island in their droves ***** https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/travel/majorca-left-devoid-uk-tourists-29414761 Majorca restaurants, bars and eateries have been left empty as UK holidaymakers opt to take their business elsewhere this summer. The amusing part is obvious (to anyone familiar with the barren wasteland beyond Calvia). And of course, the implied threat of losing those trillions of quid which of course, would bankrupt the island. Because, well, you know... ***** Spain brings in 'restriction' for UK tourists after 'unanimous vote' ***** https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/travel/spain-brings-restriction-uk-tourists-29414250 Valencia City Council unanimously voted to freeze giving licences for tourist flats for a 12-month period, with the potential of increasing the restriction. This article applies to Valencia, but is implied that it's Spain-wide, and of course, applies only to Brits, presumably because they (naturally) account for the vast majority of tourism. For reference: Tourist let licences in Mallorca have been frozen for years, yet that's had no effect on British tourism - it's hardly any secret that Brits generally prefer budget hotels in British resorts (all-inclusives are historically British favourites). Holiday lets (especially the more exclusive ones) are overwhelmingly booked by other nationalities.
Morgan WilliamsAccording to many on here all the EU countries are bankrupt and the UK is the richest country. I'd be interested to know where they get their info from as the reality is very different
BeachcomberHmm. The UK is having problems with that too. Can't even deport those boat people to Rwanda. But then, the vast majority of illegal immigrants arrive by plane and just never leave. So maybe this EES thing isn't so stupid after all? Maybe the UK would be wise to consider something similar? Oh, and Brits may be struggling, but I can assure you that many Germans, along with Scandinavians, French and Swiss - the other 80% of tourism here - do indeed have money, and are spending it here.
So the EU is going to impose a new entry and exit system on 1st world visitors to Majorca and it can’t even deport or intern all these illegal Algerians? Well with so many British people going to places outside of the EU owing to long delays, the October half term holidays will be a disaster for Majorca. The Germans don’t have any money so might as well end season on 5th October. Another EU catastrophe,.
