"The new Paseo Marítimo is still under construction, and this is compounded by the lack of a Christmas spirit. As a result, we have seen a significant drop in bookings for these dates, which are key for restaurants,’ says Juan Miguel Ferrer, president of the Mallorca CAEB Restaurant Association, who adds that “it is a reality that businessmen in the area have had a hard time during the last three years of reforms, and this Christmas could have been an opportunity to give them a break”.
"We want the Paseo to once again become a key point of enjoyment for residents and visitors, and for all the elements that contribute to its dynamism, from the access to the atmosphere, to be in harmony with the rest of the city’, concludes Juan Miguel Ferrer.
"That is why CAEB Mallorca Restoration trusts that these difficulties will be addressed on future occasions, with the aim of the Paseo Marítimo regaining its role as one of Palma's main centres of attraction."
The Paseo Maritimo is undergoing a major transformation but building work is expected to continue for many months.

Name one restaurant on the Paseo worth visiting...
Zoltan TeglasThe longer the "workers" can drag out their work. The longer they stay employed. I do not go to Palma anymore. It is an increasing Crime City. Saturated with people etc.
@Burgundy Blue Me too, I never go into Palma unless I absolutely have to. Back in the seventies you could still drive around the Old Town, easier in a smaller car. Parking was the main problem because the underground parkings had not been built. If you wanted to get something done you had to go to Palma( who remembers Shorts) so all the cars concentrated there. Nowadays services are easier to access, in Manacor, in Inca and online. The population has exploded, the number of cars has exploded and the city has become another urban sprawl of humanity, just like the myriad across Europe that so many expats wanted to get away from. Welcome to the New World.
Burgundy BlueTotal agreement, only go to Palma in April and November when they stop the airport bus to Campos, then only to Intermodel Terminal for the first bus east!
Zoltan TeglasI agree with your issue about the number of workers - the work is spread across approx 2km - but since the beginning the lack of workers has been very obvious - maybe 10-20 workers at most, often less. As you say Zoltan, those workers that could be found were always working at a snails pace. This project is clearly still 1-2 years from completion.
I wonder how many fellow residents there are across the island who, like me, make a point of never, ever visiting Palma unless absolutely necessary. Just me, then?
Whoever is managing that job should be sacked! Sometimes it can take over an hour to drive the two miles or so. Non stop traffic lights that serve no purpose, and probably only about 20 workers who are usually just stood around chatting or looking at their phones. There should be 200 or more people working round the clock. Are there no penalty clauses in the contract for late completion of the work? It's a farce!
